Let the battle begin!
Around 2 weeks ago I've received these lip masks which I've bought at Jolse and used these every night since then. I couldn't find any comparison reviews on these masks, so when they were both on sale I decided to get them both. In this post I'll review them both and comparing them, so I can make the choice easier for you ;)
Delivery & Expiration date
Both these lips masks I've bought at Jolse on November 11th and received them on November 18th.
Expiration date (shelf life) of Laneige is 20191006 & of Aritaum is 20190907.
When you've opened them you have 12 months to empty, before they expire.

Laneige spatula + pouch

Packaging, color & scent review
Packaging: First I thought the Laneige packaging was made of glass, because it looks very realistic and deluxe. Then I did the "temperature test": holding a glass perfume bottle against my cheek: brr cold! Then the Laneige packaging: not cold at all. So not glass but it looks cute and deluxe. Also this one is safe for traveling since it has that extra sealing lit on the inside. The Aritaum looks flat and minimalistic. It reminds me of the Vaseline pocket size tins. This packaging doesn't have an extra sealing lit on the inside, so not the best container for traveling. Well maybe in cold weather but definitely not in summer!
Color: The Laneige mask has a peachy pink color in the container, this is hardly visible when it's spread out on the lips. The Aritaum mask has is off white color in the container and on the lips the color is clear.
Scent: When you sniff the Laneige jar you directly smell berry bubble gum, when it's applied on the lip it smells like soft sweet fresh berries and the gum scent is gone. After a while the scent fades. The taste is like 30% of what you smell when it's on your lips.
When you sniff the Aritaum jar you smell soft hints of ginger and mostly basic Vaseline but way less strong than Vaseline.
Consistency, texture & removing review
Consistency: The Laneige mask in the jar looks like a matte cold balm. It's super easy to scoop out of jar; the spatula melts into the product and product glides onto the spatula. When applied on my skin (hand) I've noticed it melts out of shape within 30 seconds into a wet pink pool that doesn't move from its pool. The Aritaum looks like a waxy balm with a shine in the jar. It's "harder" to scoop out (using same spatula); you press the spatula in and the product is pressed kind of on the spatula. When applied on my skin (hand) the shape remains. Only after like 5 minutes it kind of starts to melt a tiny bit and it keeps its shape.
Texture: The Laneige mask is very smooth and easy to spread out since it melts fast. It has a feeling of balm, lip gloss and oil combined. It's a tiny bit sticky, but not annoying at all. It looks like it lays more on the skin at first with a watery looking finish and after a few minutes it starts to adhere more. The Aritaum mask spreads out harder since it doesn't really melt and it's super sticky, which is some what annoying. It has the feeling of a super sticky waxy balm. This masks looks like it adheres directly very strong to the skin when applied and it has sleek shiny finish.
Bare lips
The day before it all went wrong! Not because of the masks, but because winter stepped in and it started freezing; my lips got dry and chapped.
On my lips review
On the left Laneige & on the right Aritaum. I've used each lip mask for a week.
Laneige: When applied royally with the spatula it spreads so easy, you're done in seconds! You can "mmm'' your lips smooth and easily. It feels very comfortable to have this on your lips and I have no problem falling asleep with it. When I first woke up I had mixed emotions; it's almost all gone, just a sheer balmy feel on the lips remains. "So what happened?" did I ask myself; did it all get absorbed, did I eat it, or did my pillow case ate it? So I tested it during the day in the time between meals; The product gets like 90% slowly absorbed by my lips and like 10% eaten. I noticed my lips felt smoother & softer each morning. The chaps and dryness over that week started to fade quickly. My lips felt normal again by the end of the week. Sometimes during the day when it's super duper cold outside, I will put a little bit on my lips to care & protect them. It works also very well as a daytime lip balm. The remaining residue is easy to remove with a tissue in the morning. When you "mmm"your lips after it, it feels soft and smooth.
Aritaum: When applied royally with another spatula it takes a while to spread out evenly, since it's so sticky. You can "mmm" your lips okay, it's a bit in "slow motion". It was a bit getting used to falling a sleep with this mask, since you really feel this on your lips. When I woke for the first time I noticed the mask was still on there. Only the inside of my lips felt weird; like "old lady looking hands when soaked in water for too long". Also same as when you ate a lot of salty chips, same kind of effect. A bit dried out & soaked. During that week I still had few chaps on my lips but it didn't get worse or healed my lips. I have the feeling this mask will keep your lips protected when you sleep, but don't really boost to heal your lips. The remaining residue is hard to remove, it leaves a slight sticky firm layer on your lips. When you "mmm"your lips, you're stuck.
The winner is ...
Laneige - Lip Sleeping Mask!
Short recap why Laneige won
It actually works; protects and heals my chapped & dry lips. Packaging is better; travel proof + you get a spatula to keep it sanitary. Feels nicer: keeps lips smooth to move without stickiness and easy to sleep with. It looks cute and smells nice. Only tiny downside; it's a bit more pricey, but who cares: it works miracles!
Short recap why Aritaum didn't win
It only protects lips a bit but doesn't heal. Makes the inside of your lips weirdly dried out/soaked. Packaging too basic; not travel proof and no spatula. Feels not nice: so super sticky and hard to fall a sleep with. Looks basic and smells like Vaseline. So for same effect you better buy yourself Vaseline and safe $8.00. But for perfect result and healthy lips; buy yourself the Laneige.
